Thurman, General Maxwell R. (Army-retired-deceased) -- Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Southern Command (Sept 1989 - Nov 1990). After serving as commanding general of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and planning to retire, Thurman delayed his retirement at the request by President George H.W. Bush administration to spearhead Operation Just Cause, the invasion of Panama. After having  been diagnosed with leukemia in 1990, he retired from active duty in February 1991. He died November 30, 1995.

Van Voorhis, Lieutenant General Daniel (Army-retired-deceased) – Commanding General, Panama Canal Department (Jan 1940 - Feb 1941) as major general and Commanding General, Caribbean Defense Command (Feb 1941 - Sept 1941) as lieutenant general

Veneri, Marion served in Panama during World War II as an enlisted soldier in communications with D Battery, an anti-aircraft gun battery on the Pacific side from Fort Amador at the same time his cousin Staff Sergeant Pete D. Nebbia [see his entry above on this page] was also serving in the Army at Fort Clayton, Panama Canal Zone.  Veneri spent most of his assignment in the jungle.
